Suites for birthdays and milestone celebrations
A suite works for a milestone celebration in a way a restaurant does not: everyone can move, the guest of honour gets to speak to all of them, and there is something happening that carries the evening without anyone having to programme it. Most celebration groups run 14 to 24 people, which is exactly what suites are built for.
Who this is for
Families and friends marking a 40th, 50th, 60th, retirement or anniversary
Typical party size
14 to 24 guests
What matters most
The guest of honour should talk to everyone
A suite makes that possible because people circulate. A long table does the opposite — you speak to four people all night.
Mixed ages need somewhere to sit down
A private room with its own restroom and climate control makes a live event workable for guests who would find the bowl hard going.
The cake question
Outside food is not permitted, but venue catering will make and present a cake. Ask at booking rather than smuggling one in.
Pick a game nobody desperately cares about
Cheaper, and the conversation stays on the person you are there for.
Making it feel like an occasion
- Most venues will put a personalised welcome message on the suite's screens. It costs nothing and it is the photo everybody takes.
- Scoreboard messages are available at many venues for a fee, and timing is arranged in advance.
- Venue catering can supply a cake and present it — order it with the rest of the catering, before the deadline.
- Team merchandise makes a better memento than anything you can bring in, and the shop is a short walk from the suite level.
- Ask about a pre-game field or court visit. It is not always available, but when it is, it is the part everyone remembers.
Frequently asked questions
Can you bring a birthday cake into a suite?
Not from outside — venues do not permit outside food. But the venue's own catering team will supply and present a cake if you order it with the rest of your catering, and it is usually good.
Can we get a happy birthday message on the scoreboard?
At many venues, yes, usually for a fee and arranged in advance. Almost every suite can display a personalised welcome on its own screens at no cost — ask your specialist to set it up.
Are suites good for groups with children and older guests?
They are one of the best options in the building. Private restrooms, space to move, food on hand, controlled temperature and somewhere quiet to retreat make a live event workable for a group that spans several generations.
